High School is divided into Upper Secondary(IGCSE) and Sixth form. Upper Secondary is the term for the two years of school education which incorporate IGCSEs, normally known as Year 10 and Year 11 when pupils are aged between 14 and 16.

Upper Secondary- IGCSE

An IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the international version of the English GCSE. The IGCSE is the world’s most commonly taken international examination.

We follow the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) syllabi in English, Arabic, Travel Tourism, Business and all the three Sciences. We offer ICT and Mathematics through the Edexcel curriculum. We also offer a physical education subject, which is an educational course related to maintaining the human body through physical exercises. Our students participate in inter school tournaments for volleyball, football and basketball.
Our students usually take between 5 to 7 subjects for IGCSE and have some choice over which subjects they study. We usually have an orientation meeting at the end of year 9 or beginning of year 10 to explain the IGCSE. The IGCSE is a two-year course taken during Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), usually with the examination in June at the end of Year 11. Please note that once the choice is made, students will remain in that stream until the end of Year 11. At that point, students will sit for IGCSE external exams and can choose up to 7 subjects.
Examination results are announced by CIE/Edexcel in mid-August before the start of the next academic year. Examinations are graded A* to G or from 9-1 depending on the subject. Students need to achieve at least 3 grades A* to C for entry to A Level courses. We usually expect students to achieve at least a grade C in those subjects they are hoping to study at A Level. Parents are free to come and discuss with school authority any questions they may have about the Year 10 options with prior appointment.

Students achieving 5A*s may receive up to 75 per cent scholarship from the school board (subject to board regulations).

AWS is offering a Science or Commerce stream from Year 10 from the academic year 2018/2019 onwards.
