At AWS, learners in primary school build on the skills, knowledge and understanding learnt during Key stage 1. Students develop language skills in an integrated programme of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The mathematics curriculum framework explores five content areas: number, geometry, measure, handling data and problem-solving. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. Young learners at AWS develop their scientific temperament. They are taught about the interdependence of organisms, sustainability of Earth and how things work. Learners are taught to relate their scientific skills, knowledge and understanding of applications of science in everyday life, including current issues.
Specialist department caters to developing music skills and precise. Children learn the intricacies of theatre in drama class. German skills are developed in the school with small nuggets of knowledge so learners are challenged and yet comfortable with the learning process.
We have an interactive, hands-on approach to learning. Learners are presented with experiences and opportunities to imbibe real-life scenarios for their education. They understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. We instil in our student's strong moral values so they act with a robust sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them.
